Bilbao Airport Spain (BIO), recently redesigned by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, is the main gateway into the picturesque Basque region of northern Spain. The airport, five kilometres north of downtown Bilbao in the nearby community of Loiu, also serves as one of the region's major car rental hubs.

Flights from all of Spain's largest cities, as well as destinations throughout Europe and Northern Africa, enter the single three levelled terminal building at Bilbao Airport every day. The airport's terminal levels are known as P0, P1 and P2. Departures leave from P2, while arrivals fly into P1. Five ATM machines and a bank are located at the terminal's P2 level.

Toys, clothing, books, music, electronics, duty free items and unique souvenirs can be purchased at Bilbao Airport's shops, while hungry passengers can eat at one of the airport's cafés, bars or restaurants.
