Until the Cold War finished, Frankfurt Hahn Airport was a NATO facility known as Hahn Air Base and home to the US Air Force in Europe (USAFE). But today it is a commercial airport offering first-rate service with low-cost carriers such as Ryanair. Although some 120kms from Frankfurt am Main city, Hahn is nevertheless well located in the region and a convenient destination for accessing many of Germany's major cities.
